Century Old Home New Again

From Foreclosure To Green Home: The Bridgton, Maine Project

After months of detailed work, the project is finally done and the home is on the market.

This home was almost gutted to the studs and reconfigured with a much better flow. It is practically a brand new 100+ years old house. Now there are three bedrooms and two and one half bathrooms with 1716 ft² living area. The house went under deep energy retrofit and now can be operated at very low heating bills. This is one of the most if not the most energy efficient home in the area. The home was air sealed, reducing much draft, and using dense packed cellulose at R-80. The air sealing is acting as a wind breaker to the house and the insulation is like wrapping the house with a blanket.

The new triple-pane windows keep heat indoor in winter and heat out in summer. The two energy efficient mini split heat pumps, one for each floor, provide cost effective heating in the winter and cooling in summer. This house has an updated floor plan with master suite on first floor. It has his and hers closets and tiled cast iron bathtub/shower. The kitchen features granite countertops and island, which opens up to dining area and family room. That makes it easy to converse with family and friends. Among the all stainless steel appliances feature a gas cooking range, ENERGY STAR rated counter-depth 23 cu ft refrigerator and dishwasher. Combined range with convection oven and combined microwave with convection oven provide fast and even baking and roasting make entertaining easy and more enjoyable. Laundry room and mud room are conveniently located.

The second floor has two large bedrooms and a bathroom with tub/shower. It also has a large area for study/library/den/office.

The front door is 9-lite insulated steel door with insulation of R5. The screened front porch is great for summer. The high performance energy efficient heat pump and septic system are new. The oversized two-car garage has new overhead insulated doors and could easily be heated if the space is used for a different purpose. The house has a paved driveway. Fifteen acres of wooded and open space provide plenty space to build another home for family or friends, or raise chickens for fresh eggs or other animals, or have an organic garden and more. It is also convenient located one mile from grocery and drugstore.

The house is near Long Lake and Moose Pond, 15 minutes from Shawnee Ski Resort, White Mountain and other recreation areas.

It is now ready to put on the market and there are several options to acquire the property. The asking price of the home with 15 acres is $339,000 home, or $249,000 with 2 acres. 13-acre lot option for $130,000 is also available. To see the listing, click here. Hey, your house looks beautiful and is very simple and clean. The idea of re-modelling and the interior design looks great. I was wondering if I have a house same like this to stay during my vacation, it would have been awesome. I don’t know, what is the exact price near Long Lake and Moose Pond, however it looks really pretty. I will definitely want to discuss with my wife and I hope that we come up with a better decision. Thanks for post information, we definitely would appreciate a change from routine life we have, so relocating will be a good option for me. I’m also having plans to renovate my house specially kitchen and bathroom . One of my friend has suggested the Avonlea kitchen and bathroom renovations at Toronto. Thought of consulting them.
