Not a Good Idea to Paint in Winter

Postby dianed » Fri Feb 01, 2013 11:47 am

I was talking to a few painters for painting the interior of our house in the spring when I can open my windows. A couple of painters said that they could not come until the end of the week because they had to finish painting the kitchen and bedrooms for their clients. I wonder why people want to paint the interior of their home in the winter with that smelly paint stuck in the house which you don't want to open windows to let the heat escape.

All paints have a range of temperatures and humidities at which they work best and you may experience problems with it taking longer for the paint to dry.

May be the painters charge less at this time as they are free and it's not business time.

You are right. When business is slow painters charge less to get the project in winter. In this case, make sure you open the windows during the day to ventilate as long as you can. Bundle up if you need to. Ventilate for about a week.

It's fact actually Painter charges season wise to paint. And, that's the big reason people choose winter season to paint them home's windows & doors as well. Because, this time painting can be more cheapest than other seasons.

Temperatures affects the paint. It takes longer to dry in colder temperatures, so there must be sufficient drying time before temperatures begin to drop in the evenings.

I agree with Aisha on the point that painters mostly charge season wise but this is also true that in winters as the temperature down and of course then it becomes difficult to dry.

In this case , buy the zero VOC (volatile organic compound) paint. It has no formaldahyde. If you still can smell it when it's wet, that means it has a trace of formaldayde in it. Just open the windows for a few days to air it out.

How about get a few plants for the areas just painted. They help absorb VOCs and clean the air. See post on this site http://greenremodelforum.com/grf/?p=130
