Unpleasant Smell in Newly Remodeled Homes

I'm looking for new cabinets and find it difficult to get cabinets free of VOC . The cabinet boxes are made of plywood and the bonding has VOC in it. The stain and coating also contain VOC. I was told the non VOC stain and coating are not working as well as the conventional materials yet. So, I don't have much choice on the boxes. I can choose either the low VOC water base stain and coating or the one with VOC. It's a tough decision.

I think people should avoid buying new furnishings before the winter come. Because almost everybody close their windows in the winter keeping the heat in and at the same time keeping the nasty chemicals in.

Oh yes by default newly build up home stink  , for that it is advisable to use room freshener. And if your carpet or rug creates smell then do vacuuming and steaming which cleans your carpet as well as removes odor also :D.

I wouldn't use air freshener. Air freshener only masks the oder but does not remove the chemicals that produce the odor. Air freshener itself contains chemicals that may not be good for you. The natural way to getting rid of odor opening windows and adding a blower fan to ventilate the home will remove the cause of the odor.

Thanks to you for sharing the pics of home. In my opinion about that topic, people should avoid buying new furnishings before the winter come. Because almost everybody closes their windows in the winter keeping the heat in and at the same time keeping the nasty chemicals in.

Even, we have paint our house and I also found smell at home. I know this smell come from paint. But, perhaps if we use some branded paints to paint specially our house door & windows. So, there is less possibilities for this unusual smell.

This is because of the flooring (laminate/wooden flooring). Don't be obsessed with it. It's normal.

All paints have smell. It's the chemicals in the paint you're smelling. I suggest you to open the windows as long as you can untill all the smell is gone completely.
