Hi, I have got a physics question and was just wondering about it.. Can someone pls tell me how does roof insulation work? how is it effective? How does the insulation changes the heat circulation and transfer inside a house?

This is big topic and a thorough explanation can take very long!

In short, insulation stops the transfer of heat from one side to another. In summer, the roof (outside) gets very hot from the intensive radiant heat from sun. Roof insulation will greatly reduce the conduction of heat from the outside part down to the inside part of the roof where the heat is re-radiated into the house. Attic insulation works in a similar way to prevent the attic heat from transferring into the living space. In winter, roof or attic insulation works in the opposite direction by preventing heat inside the living space from transferring to the outside. Roof or attic insulation is probably the most effective way to save energy. Attics are easier to insulated. Roofs can be much harder and trickier and it is best done when you are installing a new roof.

Roof or attic insulation does not directly affect the air circulation in the living space. The temperature conditions within the living space can cause some amount of air circulation by convection.

Insulation is one of the vital part of a roofing. It prevents the transferring of temperature from one side to another. It is very useful in both hot and cold weather.

In my opinion, insulation very helpful to stops the transfer of heat from one side to another.Basically, reduce the conduction of heat from the outside part down to the inside part of the roof where the heat is re-radiated into the house.

Insulation is really important in any home.Gradually reduce the conduction of heat from the outside part down to the inside part of the roof where the heat is re-radiated into the house.
Good for these purposes.

I second the recommendation for Toto toilets. It is one of the few low flush toilets that actually flushes the first time. It was more expensive than other brands, and my inner cheapskate had a hard time with that, but it was very much worth it. http://shop.vitcas.com/fire-cement-12-c.asp

How you insulate your attic depends on whether you want a "cold" or "warm" roof space. A cold roof requires insulation at joist level to stop heat escaping through the unused roof space. A warm roof is insulated between and under the rafters of the roof itself.

Roof insulation is made of fluffy fibrous materials, that are good at trapping air in it (or at least slows down the air a lot). This air, is a rally bad conductor, and so reduces the amount of conduction going on. Since the air is essentially trapped, there is little opportunity for it to move, and so there is little convection going on. Boom. That is how insulation works.
Insulation works by :-
-Trapping air in (and so stop convection)
-Using the trapped air to stop conduction

Plastic would work to stop convection, but it is would allow conduction to continue, and so be less effective.
