Postby shmoo » Mon Apr 11, 2011 1:48 pm

I want to replace my thermostat with one that allows me to change the temperature remotely or program it from the computer. Any experiences?

Residential thermostats controllable from the internet are just starting to come to the market. Two came to mind: SmartHome and Radio Thermostat. The thermostats cost $200-$350. You can control it from an iPhone (the SmartHome iPhone app is $20). I have not used any of these to comment. I am sure more will be available very soon.

If you go to the SmartHome site, you'll find they have over 100 different types of thermostats for different types of home automation systems. Some of the popular systems are X10, Insteon and Z-Wave. The thermostats are made by different companies too as well as the furnace filters.
