My bedroom is facing west. The drapery has lining. It still gets very hot in the summer afternoon even with the A/C on. Any solutions for it?

Plant a couple of shade trees to get the sun off the western glass. Other options are to install solar screens, or reflective shades to lower heat gain.

Yea! Why didn't I think of it?! A tree! I have space to plant one. What a simple way to solve a big problem! Thanks!

Trees! Yes! When we first moved into our new house, our bedrooms facing west were so hot that we did not use our rooms much until the evening. Ten years later, the two trees we planted are giving the bedrooms so much shade that the temperature in the room has come down at least 25 degrees. We can go in there any time of the day. We got our rooms back. Amazing trees!

Actually, deciduous trees work better. They block the sun in the hot days of summer. In the winter the sun warms the rooms.

Our south facing rooms used to be very warm in the summer afternoon. It was very comfortable in the winter. I just noticed our neighbor's redwood trees are blocking the sun that the rooms are no longer warm in the afternoon this summer. It is a lot cooler than before. I wonder how it is going to be like in the winter. I may need a space heater there?!

It's going to take some time for the trees to get big enough to provide shade. You could get an awning that will block the sun when it is high in the sky. The other option would be to get baffles installed on your ductwork. The baffles would close off the rest of the house allowing the cool air to flow into just the hot room or zone. When the temperatures get cool enough, the baffles would adjust and keep the zones the right temperatures. Also, make sure you keep the clean as that will help a lot.

You can also use shading on the part of your room that is directly shine by sunlight. You can as a carpenter to do extension of the roof where sunlight directly hits.

The temperature conditions within the living space can cause some amount of air circulation by convection.
Insulation is really important in any home.You should be insulate your home roofs.

Just follow these points:
1.Add underfloor insulation
2.Air seal all leakages in a house
3.Add attic insulation
4.Add exterior wall insulation
You can solve this problem easily.
