Just in case you haven’t heard of Energy Upgrade Calif. This program is a great opportunity to improve energy efficiency for your home.The Energy Upgrade California program offers 2 packages:

1. The Basic Upgrade Package includes seven required measures that together can reduce your energy consumption by an average of 10%. The fixed incentive is $1,000. The measures includes: air sealing, attic insulation, duct sealing, hot water pipe insulation, thermostatic shower control, combustion safety testing, and smoke detector/CO detector.

2. The Advanced Upgrade Package is a customized solution for your home based on an Energy Assessment. Incentives range from $1,250 - $4,000. They include: High efficiency furnace, energy efficient cooling, energy efficient hot water heater, energy efficient window, wall insulation, variable speed pool pump, and cool roof.

In order to qualify for the rebate, the contractor or his staff has to be BPI certified. Contact an Energy Upgrade California participating contractor to plan your upgrade based on the results of your energy assessment.

How do I know the contractors are BPI certified? Where do I find them?

Thanks. I agree about the plan not being a good one. I also think it is going to do zero to help the economy.
I did find out though that if you install energy star windows in 2009 you will get back 30% on next years taxes.

The BPI (Building Performance Institute) contractors can be found on the website of Energy Upgrade California, https://energyupgradeca.org/county/cont ... v=91369500. The listed contractors are all BPI certified. Most contractors are certified for advanced package and a small number are certified for basic package. The advanced certification is qualified to do all home performance retrofit and you get up to $4000 rebate. the basic certification is only qualify to do basic which you can get up to $1000 rebate.

The Energy Upgrade California program does not help a lot on the economy. It does help a small group of home performance contractors and BPI (Building Performance Institute) which people got trained and certified by them.

At least some people got JOBS!

To answer dia's question, you can find a list of energy assessment contractors on the website of energyupgradeca.org. They are all BPI certified in order to be listed on the website.

I understand with this depressed economy. Most people don't want to spend money now. You don't have to do the whole energy upgrade. You may want to do a smaller upgrade, such as the $1000 rebate. It won't cost as much. In fact, the best time to do the energy upgrade is when you're planning a remodel.

This Energy Upgrade CA rebate sounds pretty good but I didn't hear anybody talking about it. I didn't see any advertising either. How would people want to do the upgrade if they don't know about the program?
