When I was at a hardware store yesterday I noticed there were very few incandescent light bulbs on the shelves. Are the manufacturers going to stop making them?

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 is imposing new law and restriction on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Because lighting accounts for 15% of the electrical use in homes, incandescent light bulbs will be phased out between 2012 and 2014. 100 watts will be stopped manufacturing as of Jan. 1, 2012, 75 watts on 2013, and 60 & 40 watts on 2014. LED lights are too expensive for general lighting in homes. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are expected to be replaced for incandescent light bulbs.

LED's price has gone down a lot compare to the price 2 years ago. Now you can get it for under $20 and they last for 50,000 hours. For hard to reach areas, such as can lights, LED's are good solutions. At least you won't have to replace the light bulbs for 12 years.
