Do solar panels worth the investment?

Since solar energy is a kind of free and clean energy.So we've been looking into ways to cut our electric bill and was thinking about getting some quotes for solar panels.
Has anyone done this? Is it worth it? How much did it end up costing and how long do you think it took before you recouped your cost?

Generally solar panels are good long term investments. Exactly how long it takes to get your investment payback depends on your electric utility rate - the higher the rate, the quicker you get your payback. You can get a few quotes from solar installers and ask them to explain to you how you are saving money. Leasing is a financing option if you do not wish to buy the panels upfront.
