Planning A Landscape With Drought Tolerant Plants

I have always wanted to redo my own landscape using California native plants and to reduce water usage. The recent 4-year drought here made me look harder into what type of plants to use. Very low watering need is most critical. I also want to avoid using chemical fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide.

For an aesthetic and pleasing appearance, I need color and texture with different height. For my yard, I need shrubs, groundcovers and grasses. I also want some plants that attract beneficial insects.

I have compiled a list of plants that interest me most. This represents a ‘short’ list from which I plan to choose for my new landscape. Almost all the drought tolerant plants on the list require little or no watering in two year.

Most of these are California native which means they have adapted well to the local climate and soil conditions. Please click here to see the list which I will be updating as I find other plants and additional information about them.
