Recyle Unwanted Materials

I am planning to remodel my home. I want my contractor to recycle the unwanted used cabinets, doors, etc. Where can he drop them off.

You may want to install the old cabinets in your garage for storage. They makes your garage look neater. If you can not use all the cabinets, you may want to donate the remaining cabinets & doors, etc. to Restore or Reuse People or other non-profit organizations. You may even get tax write-off. Some of them would come to your door to pick up. If you plan for a big remodel. You may want deconstruction for a bigger tax write-off. They usually charge you a fee for the estimates of the worth of the donation. Then you can decide whether to deconstruct. Deconstruction usually costs more than demolition. Because it takes more time to take them apart so that they can recycle more building materials.

habitat for humanity will often take old building materiel and gift them to others seeking to remodel, or often there are wood recycling houses that will usually cost less than dump fees. Not only can you be green but frugal as well.

An oak tree is growing at a bad location and needs to be removed in my back yard and I don't want it to become mulch. It's about 18" in diameter and about 25' - 30' tall. I like to know if there is a better place for it instead of becoming mulch. I live in the East Bay.

I've heard that there are cabinet companies come to your home to pick up tree trunks for free. They'll take them back to their shop and use them to make cabinets or furniture. You may save some money because tree services charge you to dispose the wood chips.

I agree you could even reuse a lot of things that you have at home. Old windows and doors can be repainted and used as a decor. If you have any old electronic items that are still in a good condition you could donate it by giving to charity or to any schools.
